Crown Reef Resort Myrtle Beach

by Rebecca Plaisance

In our house, no summer is complete without a trip to the beach. It is something that my whole family looks forward to every year. We are creatures of habit and go to the same beach each year. This year, Crown Reef Resort Myrtle Beach invited my family to come check out their new resort and killer waterslides (more on that to come!). It was exactly what we needed to break us out of our normal summer beach routine.

Crown Reef Resort Myrtle Beach

The Crown Reef Resort, located in South Myrtle Beach, offers families a great destination right on the beach. Every room in the resort has an ocean view, easy beach access and a view of the great pools.

With 3 waterslides, endless pools, a lazy river and hot tubs the only way your kids will be bored is if you keep them locked in their rooms! My kids hit the pool by 9AM every day and we didn’t make it back to the room until it was time to get ready for dinner. The new waterslides are the best, there is a body slide, a slide you use tubes in and a smaller waterslide/water park for little kids.

My 6 year old did all of the big slides with no problem, look at that face, she loved it!

We spent more time on slides and in the pools then we did at the beach this trip. The space is laid out so that kids can move easily from one pool to the other without any problems, there is supervision at the slides to ensure that they are safe and people are spaced going down. The waterslides are truly the gem off the resort, 40 feet above the ground, the Twister Slide is 302 feet long and the Explosion Slide is 278 feet long!

Need something a little more tame? The Kiddy Slide is 8 feet tall and 20 feet long, it’s great for kids of all ages. Best part? Crown Reef’s waterpark is enclosed for the winter so if you need a break from the cold Crown Reef offers a great option. The Lazy River is 575 feet long, making it the longest one in Myrtle Beach!

Accommodations

Crown Reef Resort is undergoing a $7.5 million renovation; from the dining areas to the rooms, all 514 oceanfront rooms will soon have a fresh look. There are plenty of room options, we stayed in a suit that had 2 rooms connected by a kitchenette. We had 2 queen beds, a murphy bed and sleeper sofa.

There was tons of space for the 5 of us but the truth is, there is so much to do we didn’t spend much time in the room. In addition to newly renovated rooms, the dining areas are undergoing a renovation, the Town Center offers a Grab and Go where you can get a quick breakfast, coffee, snacks, ice cream and a full arcade.

Food Options

Loco Geko is the resorts full-service restaurant, they have great pizza and a full kids menu. We took pizza to go one night and ate in the restaurant another night. The food was very good and the service was great. We found them to be very accommodating and kid-friendly. If that’s not enough to convince you to check out Crown Reef Resort for your next vacation. They also offer great special activities including kids crafts/activities all summer, water-sports (tickets must be purchased at Downwind Sails and discounts are offered for Crown Reef guests) and Chief Kamu’s Hula and Fire Show. We stayed an extra night to check out the show and it was so worth it! The kids loved the hula dancers. It was super windy that night so we missed the fire show but am sure it’s amazing!

For families looking for a great beachfront resort that is not just family friendly but also budget-friendly, Crown Reef Resort is a great option. With rates starting at $39 a night on select dates you can provide the family with tons of fun without breaking the bank!
